When Mrs. Gibson’s third grade students learned about minerals, soil layers, and rocks this year, Mrs. Shawn Poole, a geologist and gemologist, brought in samples of minerals, rocks, and precious stones collected from CA, WA, SD, WY, ND, NC, TN, AR, MS, and TX. She has collected rocks from Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, and other places where fossils are being excavated out west. She has also panned for gold, ruby, sapphires and diamonds. Students examined different types of rocks and minerals and learned to classify them using their books.
