STEM Track to the Future

STEM Track 2014
STEM Track to the Future is an opportunity for junior high and high school students to interact one on one with career professionals in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The Northpoint Christian School gym is turned into an exhibit hall where approximately twenty-five “STEM Pros” from DeSoto County and the surrounding area share with students the excitement and importance of their career in our world today. Students rotate through the “STEM Track”, spending time at each station exploring STEM careers including those in architecture, biotechnology, engineering, forensics, graphic design, and the health care profession, just to name a few.

Honors and upper level science students work as “tour guides” for the student groups that will be visiting the STEM Track, and are assistants for the STEM Pros. These students also work as teams to create digital portfolios for the STEM careers that are presented at STEM Track. These digital portfolios are being used to create a STEM Career Resource Center at our school.

Ultimately, our goal is that STEM Track to Your Future will promote a passion for science in our students by connecting them to careers that address the critical issues in today’s world, allowing them the opportunity of seeing how they can make a positive impact on the future and perhaps inspire them to consider a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
