1st grade students learned all about making candy from plants. Julie O’Bryan from Botanic Gardens talked about cinnamon, mint, and “chicle” or gum. All these plants are used to make candies. Students actually made and tasted gum, and homemade “mints” made from mint leaves, sugar and water.
